Liverpool seem to be on the verge of signing Victor Osimhen.
Jurgen Klopp could welcome a new forward to the squad after reports have circulated that indicate a sensational transfer is in it’s final stages.
Italian source Calcio Napoli 24 wrote that Liverpool were close to a ‘final agreement’ with Victor Osimhen for his £54 million transfer from Lille.
Paisley Gates disseminated the news and wrote that Klopp has given the green light to the Nigerian, who has scored 13 goals in the French top flight this season.
The 21-year-old has been in Europe since 2017, when Wolfsburg signed him from Ultimate Strikers Academy in Nigeria and then loaned Osimhen to Charleroi in August 2018. That loan was made permanent for €3.5 million.
20 goals in 36 appearances in Belgium convinced Lille to spend €14 million and hand Charleroi an incredible return on investment just one year after buying the forward.
Victor Osimhen’s route to the top seems unstoppable at this point. Liverpool are being quoted a tremendous sum of money for someone who has just completed their first campaign in one of Europe’s top five leagues, but apparently Klopp likes what he sees.
The Nigerian can play across the front three but his main position is through the middle, which could spell trouble for Takumi Minamino if this deal goes through.
It would certainly be sensational if it did. The price quoted is more than the failed Timo Werner bid, which split Liverpool fans on ideological lines.
We’ve come off the backs of weeks and weeks of Klopp trying to put on damper on expectations for the campaign all while bigging up the talents of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Neco Williams.
Yasser Larouci deciding to leave the club does mean a little transfer activity might be required, but nothing like the volume we’re talking about to land Osimhen.
Is this deal likely? You’d think not. Would it be sensational? Absolutely.
