Liverpool will miss out on Thiago Alcantara.

If they don’t get their act together, they will see another elite player join a rival because of financial constraints.

French publication Le 10 Sport has written that PSG are now in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara. Surprise, surprise, they are willing to meet the €30 million asking price.

Le 10 Sport wrote that negotiations are underway between the French club and Munich, and people within the oil rich outfit are making a strong case to sign the Spanish international.

This is a contrast to everything we’ve heard in the last month or so. Thiago Alcantara has been flirting with Liverpool, hard.

We’ve seen with Timo Werner that flirting matters little. Munich will be keen to get a deal done this summer, or risk losing an asset for free. PSG definitely have the money to get this one over the line.

One thing that might still clear the way for Thiago to Liverpool are PSG’s interest in other midfielders. They like the look of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as a first choice, but have a few other irons in the fire – said the report.

There’s a strong feeling among the fanbase that this is a move the club need to make, especially as the Gini Wijnaldum contract negotiations continue to wind on. Liverpool are heading towards that critical six-month juncture that’ll allow the Dutchman to move on a free transfer at the end of his deal, and nobody wants that.

Other pressing issues include the need to sign a back-up for Andy Robertson and another central defender. Liverpool have always operated smartly in the transfer market, and when spending has been big it’s been very targeted.

We can expect more of the same moving forward from this club, but we might have to prepare for disappointment with Thiago.
