Liverpool fans are excited by the prospect of Kostas Tsimikas.

The Greek defender kept Wolves attacker, and rumoured Reds transfer target, Adama Traore in his pocket all night and that’s got people talking.

Wolves were playing Olympiacos in the second-leg of their Europa League game and managed to see them off thanks to one Daniel Podence penalty. Despite beating them 1-0, Kostas Tsimikas can come out of the match with his head held high.

Adama Traore has terrorised defences up and down the Premier League this season but failed to turn it on at home to the Greek side.

Tsimikas made six tackles as Traore only managed to complete one dribble all night, while the left-back provided a threat going forward and complete one dribble of his own.

WhoScored also reported that he made two key passes, two interceptions and one clearance as Wolves relied on a penalty to scrape their way through the tie.

A move for Tsimikas could prove better value for money than one for Jamal Lewis, who Norwich City value highly. Despite Lewis’s desire to move to Anfield, City won’t be bullied into accepting reduced terms and are in good financial health.

Traore had a less impressive game. His bad touch constantly ruined attacking attempts, while the Spaniard managed no shots on goal and just one key pass.

This is down to some excellent defending by Tsimikas, and also partly explained by the inconsistency that plagued the forwards early career.

Nevertheless, the Liverpool fans who tuned in to watch the game were impressed. It’s clear that the 24-year-old can attack well, has a good pass on him, but also knows when to get back and defend.

If he can control Traore, one of the best right-sided forwards in the Premier League, then there’s an excellent chance he’ll be able to step up for Jurgen Klopp when needed.

Tsimikas could also represent excellent value for money, and will almost certainly go for less than Lewis.
