Liverpool are losing Adam Lewis.
The defender is set to leave, and marks the second player to do so before sporting director Michael Edwards has brought in a first-choice replacement.
Liverpool have just three central defenders but did buy Kostas Tsimikas, who’ll learn and develop from Andy Robertson in the future.
Adam Lewis has been around the first team squad for a while but rarely got any opportunities to show what he’s about – but now that problem looks like it’ll be solved.
The Athletic’s James Pearce tweeted that French Ligue 2 side Amiens will take Lewis on loan for the rest of the season and they will carry out a medical on Monday.
Liverpool are already losing youngster Yasser Larouci, who turned down a massive contract and will probably leave this summer. Leeds and Brentford have been linked with a move for the youngster, who was also in-and-around the senior set-up.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens to Lewis moving forward. This isn’t the first time a defender has been sent to a second-tier in Europe, after Nathaniel Phillips spent time with Stuttgart in Bundesliga 2.
He helped them earn promotion to the Bundesliga and came back for one game, helped defeat Everton in the FA Cup, and flew back to help his side in Germany.
The arrival of Tsimikas probably means it’s curtains for Lewis and his time at the club. His loan deal should help increase his value, which will enable Liverpool to sell the English youngster for more money when his deal with Amien expires.
Keep an eye on how he goes as this loan spell progresses. It’s Lewis’s first taste of regular first-team football, and should allow the Merseyside lad to develop and experience some new tactical requirements and cultures.
What do you think about this deal, will it end up being a good one?
