An agreement on a four-year contract has been reportedly reached between Liverpool and Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

French outlet RMC TV’s Mohamed Bouhafsi has claimed on Twitter that the Spanish international has told some of his teammates that he will play in England.

Thiago has featured in 38 matches for Bayern Munich this season, amassing three goals and two assists. The Spaniard has been linked with an exit from the Bundesliga champions for a while now with club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stating a few weeks back that he intends on leaving the club.

"As quoted by Sky Sports the two-time Ballon d’Or winner said: “The talks Hasan (Salihamidzic) had with him have always been very productive. And at some point it actually seemed that [a new contract] was done. But then Thiago told Hasan some time ago that he would like to try something new at the end of his career. We have to accept that.”"

Thiago has been linked to Liverpool with PSG also touted as a possible suitor. If Bouhafsi’s report is true, then the Reds shall have made a pretty good signing. Having already roped in Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos, the fans would love to see Thiago arriving.

The 29-year-old will bring some flair to the Reds midfield, something that has been missing since Philippe Coutinho’s departure. People have often spoken about how Liverpool’s midfielders do not create and this could help solve the gap.

In terms of adding quality to a league winning squad, it would be the signing of the season if Liverpool could bring Thiago in.

While Thiago  does bring some possible creativity, it’ll be interesting to see how Jurgen Klopp fits him in his plans because we’ve often seen the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum run all around the pitch, aiding in defense while the full-backs surge forward while also linking up with the attackers.

Interestingly, Fabinho and Henderson have both provided more assists than the 29-year-old has this season.

Nevertheless, Thiago will be a solid addition to Liverpool’s squad and will add some depth to it ahead of the upcoming season.
