Don’t think about Jurgen Klopp’s desire to leave

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to leave the club.

The Telegraph confirmed that the German will say auf wiedersehn to Merseyside at the end of his current contract.

Understandably, this has the potential to cause a mild panic among the Liverpool fanbase, who have grown so used to seeing Jurgen Klopp lead the side to greater and greater things.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager turned the Reds from doubters to believers in five short years by winning the Champions League, then the European Super Cup, Club World Cup and Premier League.

It’s been a glorious two years, but all good things must come to an end as Klopp has confirmed his desire to step away from Liverpool in four years.

While it’s tempting to feel sorrow at this news, it’s not something everyone should dwell on. The German still has four years to create a real institution for success and leave a tangible legacy of his time at the club.

By the time his deal expires, he’ll have spent nine years with Liverpool – the most of his career. Who knows what joy we’ll have experienced under Klopp’s leadership by then, but with young players coming through the system, an amazing kit deal with Nike, an expanded stadium and a new training ground, the future of the club will be incredibly secure.

The German will need to lead the squad through a potentially rocky time as a number of first team starts are edging towards 30. He’ll need to find replacements for Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah at a minimum.

That means things are going to get exciting around the place, and there’s no way we’ll be left in a Kloppless future that looks as bleak as the past he rescued the club from.

So don’t be sad, there’s plenty more joy to come.
