Liverpool are ‘weighing up’ offer for Javi Cendon.
Evening Standard journalist David Lynch reported that the Reds are considering whether or not to make a move for the Spaniard.
Javi Cendon is a free agent after his contract at Villarreal expired this summer, and has been training with Liverpool during the preseason camp in Austria.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper has made a good impression on goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, said the Standard, and has played his way into an assessment at Melwood.
If Cendon keeps on doing well, Lynch wrote that he could earn himself a permanent deal with Liverpool. He would be signed for an U23 role and as competition for Vitezslav Jaros, while Kamil Grabara is expected to leave on loan.
Grabara did well at Huddersfield Town last season, but injury ruined his time with the Terriers. The Pole made a really good impression, despite some crazy moments, and several key sources around the club spoke very highly of him.
Liverpool are well stocked for senior goalkeepers, even if Loris Karius leaves on a permanent deal. Adrian is the second choice, and not much is going to change that, while Irish youngster Caoimhin Kelleher will be third in line.
Lynch wrote that Karius ‘is expected to depart permanently’ and there certainly doesn’t seem to be much chance of him remaining around Anfield.
The move for Cendon does seem to be a little bit of an odd one. This is an area the club are well stocked in, and have several good options for the future.
Grabara has done well in the Championship, Kelleher impressed when he was given a chance in the cup and Ben Winterbottom has been promoted from the U18 side.
I suppose you can never carry your eggs in too many baskets, even if it might turn into a difficult exercise in man management keeping them happy.
