Liverpool players who could feature in the Nations League
These are the Liverpool players who’ll feature in the Nations League.
A total of eight footballers from Liverpool have been called up to their respective national teams for the biennial tournament.
Two players from the club have been included in England’s squad for their matches against Iceland and Denmark- Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez.
Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has been omitted from Gareth Southgate’s team as he is yet to fully recover from the injury he sustained against Brighton. However, Jurgen Klopp has said that the 30-year-old could be fit to play in their Premier League opener against Leeds United.
While Gomez has a fair chance of starting for England in any one or both games, it will be interesting to see if Alexander-Arnold will feature as he too had an injury issue that ruled him out of the recently-concluded Community Shield.
Andy Robertson has been included in Scotland’s squad for their matches against Israel and Czech Republic. The 26-year-old will be donning the captain’s armband and will be hoping to lead his side to a good start in the Nations League.
While we’re on left-backs, Liverpool’s new signing Kostas Tsimikas has been included in Greece’s squad for their fixtures against Slovenia and Kosovo. The 21-year-old has made three appearances for his country so far and we could see him feature in today’s match in Ljubljana.
As expected, both Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum have in included in Netherlands’ squad for their matches against Poland and Italy. Both players will most likely start and will be eager to help the Oranje win their fixtures. Given his prolific scoring record with his national team lately, it won’t be a surprise if Wijnaldum scores in any or both games.
Wales has two Liverpool players in Harry Wilson and Neco Williams. The former is back at Liverpool following the end of his loan spell at Bournemouth. Wilson scored a goal in the previous edition of the Nations League and will be eager to do well for his team this time.
Williams has featured in quite a few matches for Liverpool lately which has resulted in him receiving his first international call-up. It will be interesting to see if Ryan Giggs uses him during the matches. Wales play Finland at Helsinki today before hosting Bulgaria on Sunday.
