Liverpool want to sign Marcelo Brozovic as an alternative to Thiago.

Football.London and Tom Gott at 90min.com have reported that Michael Edwards may want to switch his attention away from Germany.

Chelsea are primarily interested in bringing in the Inter Milan midfielder, wrote Gott, but Liverpool have also watched the player and may come in for him if the deal for Thiago can’t be completed.

Marcelo Brozovic has two years left on his current contract and that could mean it’s the perfect time for Edwards to swoop in on a transfer.

Inter won’t want him to go down to the final year of his deal and have all the power when it comes to negotiations, but if they get vibes from the 27-year-old that he’s open to moving it’ll give them an incentive to sell now.

Liverpool first need to sort out their own squad issues. Thiago has just 12 months left on his contract yet a deal is no closer to being reached, primarily because Jurgen Klopp needs to sell before he can buy.

Despite being involved in watching the midfielder, this doesn’t seem like a move that would appeal to FSG or Edwards.

According to Transfermarkt, the player is worth £45 million and that’s not money the club have to spend at this moment. They are losing money thanks to the impact COVID-19 is having on the market and it doesn’t look like any sales would raise enough cash.

Marko Grujic and Harry Wilson aren’t really attracting buyers, or if they are, there are no offers good enough for the club to accept. We’ve read that they are willing to hang on to the pair for 12 months in order to try and get more for them further down the line.

The same could be said about Divock Origi or Xherdan Shaqiri.

Liverpool and Marcelo Brozovic? Don’t hang your hat on it.
