Liverpool are well represented in the PFA Team of the Year.

As claimed by the club’s official website, the champions had five players who made the cut. Barring Caglar Soyuncu, which is an odd selection given his lack of form after Christmas, all of the other defenders in the team represent the Reds.

Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk provided the spine of the side, and rightly so. Alexander-Arnold has also been handed the PFA Young Player of the Year. The 21-year-old had a major impact on his team from the right flank while amassing four goals and 13 assists.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson found a place in the side, being joined by the Manchester City duo of Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva.

The England international has received a lot of plaudits for his performances and leadership in 19/20. Henderson however, lost the PFA Player of the Year award to de Bruyne.

The final Liverpool player in the team is Sadio Mane, who had a pretty impressive season, scoring 18 goals while providing nine assists in 35 Premier League appearances. This is the Senegalese winger’s third appearance in the PFA Team of the Year.

With the other forwards being Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and top scorer Jamie Vardy, there was sadly no place for Mohamed Salah who amassed 19 goals and ten assists in the league.

This is the first time in the Premier League era that five players from Liverpool made the PFA Team of the Year, one more than last season.

2019/20 was a memorable season for the Reds and we can only hope for the upcoming term to be a better one with more players making the Team of the Year.

Jurgen Klopp’s side thrashed Neil Critchley’s Blackpool 7-2 in their last pre-season friendly and play their Premier League opener against Leeds United on Saturday.

The Reds seem heavy favorites to win but Marcelo Bielsa’s side should not be written off. Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see how Liverpool begin their title defence this weekend.
