Bayern Munich are playing games as Liverpool make Thiago bid.

According to Varsky Sports, Liverpool have finally agreed to match Bayern Munich’s valuation for midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

However, before you put on your party hats and get on the club shop to order your Thiago shirt with number six on the back, it seems there has been another twist in the saga.

Despite constant news streams coming out from Germany confirming the Bayern €30 million asking price for the Spanish star, Varsky also reported that this amount has now been raised to €35 million – once again putting the deal just out of reach.

If this is true it would seem that the newly crowned European Champions have no intention of selling the player in a move that will devastate fans.

For weeks we have had it rubbed in our faces that other Premier League clubs are spending big while we play it safe in the transfer market. Although we’re all disappointed, most of us understand the reasons behind the caution – with the financial uncertainty that is around the world thanks to the COVID19 pandemic.

What helped placate fans during this time was the imminent arrival of Thiago Alcantara in a bargain bin transaction.

With Munich seemingly playing games over naming a solid price, Liverpool and owners FSG will surely pull the plug on any potential and move on to another target. Of course, this could mean that any potential deal to take Gini Wijnaldum to Barcelona will also be put on hold.

Losing his underrated work rate was always going to leave a massive gap in the squad even if his departure were to be followed up by the arrival of Thiago.

Even positive news in this area won’t be enough to stop the Twitter lynch mob from hitting the FSG Out button. But, with the new season kicking off in just a couple of days, I hope that reds fans can put the transfer merry-go-round out of their minds and get behind the team.
