Liverpool player ratings vs Leeds: Arrogant Virgil van Dijk had a stinker
These are the Liverpool player ratings from the Leeds win as Virgil van Dijk had a stinker.
Marcelo Bielsa’s outfit took the game to the Reds as they made the most of a lackluster display and defensive errors.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring from the penalty spot, before Jack Harrison equalised. Virgil van Dijk then nodded home from an Andy Robertson corner to restore Liverpool’s lead, but it didn’t last long.
Patrick Bamford grabbed the White’s second, Salah hit the back of the net again, Mateusz Klich scored Leeds’ third equaliser and Salah sealed his hat-trick with another penalty.
It was a mad game that displayed just how good Mo is, but it also highlighted the rusty nature of both sides after a rapid preseason campaign. Teams are still finding their feet, form and fitness and these first few fixtures will have that feel about it.
Leeds will be encouraged by their first game back in the Premier League and the attacking threat they proved. Bielsa’s side gave Liverpool a tough time and that bodes well for the future.
Here are the Liverpool player ratings from the Leeds win. We used an average score taking from This Is Anfield, Sky Sports, the Echo and the Independent.
Alisson wasn’t at his usual levels against Leeds. The first goal had nothing to do with the Brazilian, but he seemed to struggle with his communication and could have done better with the second.
Made one good save against Bamford and that was a rare moment of quality from the goalkeeper. He looked rusty, hopefully things will improve against Chelsea.
