Liverpool player ratings vs Chelsea: Thiago pressures Fabinho

Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-0 as Sadio Mane struck twice. These are the player ratings.

This game was billed as the return of Jurgen Klopp vs Frank Lampard but it was the German who came away victorious.

A red card for defender Andreas Christensen and Jorginho missing a penalty handed Liverpool a scoreline that looked a lot more comprehensive than it was.

Mane’s double was the result of some hard work from the forward, who’s outstanding header opened the scoring while the Senegal international made the most of a Kepa error to bag the second.

Thiago came on at half-time as Jordan Henderson limped off, while Fabinho started as a central defender as Joe Gomez and Joel Matip suffered injuries in the build-up to Sunday’s clash.

Alisson was much improved on Sunday as he saved Jorginho’s penalty and made a strong save against Tammy Abraham as the game neared it’s conclusion.

Despite their big spending, Chelsea failed to trouble the Brazilian for the majority of the game. His distribution was also excellent, and hopefully this heralds a return to form.
