Liverpool have agreed a fee for Ismaila Sarr.

Latest reports are indicating that Michael Edwards isn’t done with his spending spree just yet. However, he is looking after the pennies by negotiating on the wage front.

Get Football News France has reported that an agreement has been reached that would see the Reds spend between €35 million and €40 million on the Senegal international.

Ismaila Sarr does want to be well compensated, which you could understand from a player on the brink of joining Liverpool for a fairly large fee.

Contract demands of between €6m and €7m could prove to be a sticking point as the two sides seek to end a rumour that has rumbled on all summer.

Common sense would dictate that the signing of Diogo Jota would mean Liverpool would abandon their search for another forward, especially with Xherdan Shaqiri and Harry Wilson in the squad.

This isn’t necessarily the case, reported GFNF, as real competition for places is the name of the game.

It’s interesting to see the floodgates really open in terms of Liverpool’s spending power. The deals for Thiago and Jota were made possible by the club’s low initial outlay for the pair.

They might end up paying more over five years, but there’s more short-term security while COVID-19 plays havoc with finance spreadsheets up and down the country.

You’d imagine that any deal for Ismaila Sarr would hinge on Liverpool being able to make a similar arrangement with Watford. Their owners, the Pozzo’s, are hard-nosed and may be less inclined to roll over for Edwards.

Sarr would also block the path of Harvey Elliott, and while the teenager isn’t likely to play a big part this season, he is primed for some minutes to continue his development.

It’s against this backdrop that any deal for the forward looks unlikely, but we’ve learned to never say never.
