Liverpool injury news: Four out as Jurgen Klopp ponders team selection
Liverpool could have four players out injured for the Lincoln game.
Talking ahead of the Carabao Cup fixture, Jurgen Klopp’s assistant manager Pep Lijnders explained that there’d be a lighter squad taking on the League One side.
We’re only three games into the 2020/2021 season but we’re already seeing injuries have an impact on Liverpool.
With fixtures and competitions flying thick and fast, Klopp is going to have to manage his squad wisely and we can expect to see heavy rotation for the match on Thursday night.
The Echo reported that Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and possibly Billy Koumetio are all going to be missing.
Koumetio sat out of a training session this week but may still have a part to play, while Matip, Gomez and Henderson will definitely not be included in the squad.
"Lijnders said: “Hendo, hopefully he will get back next week, but tomorrow for sure is too soon.” The assistant added that Gomez will only start training again on Friday.“He will train Friday with the team – that’s good news, to be honest,” added Lijnders"
There’ll be a race to get Gomez and Henderson fit for the Arsenal game this weekend, while Matip won’t be in contention to face the Gunners.
Matip and Gomez were absent as Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-0, which lead Fabinho to play as a centre-back. While this shows off his incredible range of skills, this club shouldn’t be in a position where their best defensive midfielder needs to be a jack-of-all-trades.
There’ll be a few interesting things to look out for during this game. The composition of the midfield is one, while Diogo Jota will have an eye on making his debut.
But with Divock Origi, Curtis Jones, Takumi Minamino, Xherdan Shaqiri, Harvey Elliott and Jota in the squad, there are plenty who will be jostling for a place in that three man forward line.
Will Thiago get his first start? The Spaniard impressed during that 45 minute cameo on Sunday and will want some more minutes in his legs, while Kostas Tsimikas could be in line for his first taste of competitive action.
