Liverpool player ratings: Defense

7. . . . TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD

Dealing with everyone’s second favourite Fantasy Football captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is never easy.

Until the 93rd minute, we didn’t see a peep from the Gabonese international – which is largely due to the excellent work of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

He hit the crossbar from a deflected effort early on, as well as setting up the second goal for Andrew Robertson.

A typical Trent performance.

6.5. . . . JOE GOMEZ

Coming back from an injury is never easy – especially after Fabinho’s Maldini-like performance at Chelsea last week.

Gomez looked shaky at times but in others the domineering, powerful machine that we have seen in years previous.

He charged into the midfield area several times, reminding me a lot of Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly – a player linked with Liverpool in recent years.

. . VIRGIL VAN DIJK. 8.

Just your normal Van Dijk eight.

The Dutchman dominated in both boxes – causing all sorts of havoc from set-pieces, alongside his usual superiority in defending Liverpool’s lead.

The way he shouted at the referee, even with just a few seconds to go, shows the mentality of this football club right to the end.

. ANDY ROBERTSON. 7. .

I was preparing for Robertson’s four out of ten in my mind after his extremely questionable scuff into the path of Alexandre Lacazette to give Arsenal the lead.

But again, the mentality.

Robertson found himself one-on-one with Bernd Leno – did he panic? The left-back? No chance. A touch and a dink over the top of the keeper, and Liverpool had taken the lead.
