Four players will miss the Carabao Cup game against Arsenal on Thursday night.

The official club website reported that there’s one new player added to the injury list as Jurgen Klopp prepares the team to beat the Gunners again.

We know about Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain; all three are officially unavailable. Henderson might be fit for the Aston Villa clash, Matip could be back in time to play Everton while there’s no target set for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Kostas Tsimikas is the new man out due to the thigh strain he picked up in the 7-2 win against Lincoln City. Tsimikas made his full debut and will be really disappointed to miss out against Arsenal. He’ll also be unavailable for the weekend’s action – said assistant manage Pepijn Lijnders.

"“We have Kostas, who after the Lincoln game had a thigh problem. We thought it would settle, it didn’t, so he will need more time. He will not be involved on Thursday and also not on Sunday.”"

Lijnders also clarified the situation about Oxlade-Chamberlain:

"“Ox is progressing well. He’s in a good way and it’s really important for him that this first phase goes smooth. But, of course, that takes a much longer time.”"

That means we’ll either see Joe Gomez or James Milner at left-back as Andy Robertson will be due a rest after his heroics in the 3-1 Premier League victory over the Gunners on Monday night.

Who else could we see in the side? Rhys Williams made his debut against Lincoln but it’ll be a massive ask for the youngster to go from playing against a League One side to Arsenal, and Klopp might have to think again in that position.

Takumi Minamino is injury free and will be ready to go after scoring twice in the last Carabao Cup round, while Curtis Jones has a knack of stepping up to the plate during this type of game.

Without Henderson in the squad, leadership roles will fall to more senior players and that could mean Virgil van Dijk starts out of necessity. Klopp was prepared to put the Dutchman in the team against Lincoln and we’ll probably see a repeat of that on Thursday.
