Fans want Liverpool forward Divock Origi out.

The Belgian missed a penalty as Arsenal beat the Reds to knock them out of the Carabao Cup, and his attitude has started to rub some the wrong way.

There’s an excellent chance that Liverpool would have advanced to the quarterfinal of the competition had Divock Origi scored his chance.

Adrian saved Mohamed Elneny’s effort to give the Reds a lead – but Origi couldn’t capitalise on it and then Harry Wilson missed the deciding effort.

Origi has made just two appearances for Jurgen Klopp this season; both of them in the League Cup. He scored and assisted against Lincoln City but was unable to have a positive impact on Thursday night.

After his heroic 2018/2019 campaign, Belgium’s youngest ever World Cup scorer failed to make his mark on the side last season and seems to be at the back of the pecking order now.

The additions of Takumi Minamino and Diogo Jota have limited his first team chances and he’s yet to emerge from the substitutes bench in the Premier League.

Minimal minutes, combined with a few poor performances, have seen patience run dry and there’s more of a clamour to get Origi sold than ever before.

Those fans may be disappointed. It looks like Xherdan Shaqiri will be leaving soon – he wasn’t in the squad on Thursday and Klopp confirmed it wasn’t because of fitness or discipline issues.

Paul Gorst at the Echo reported that he said:

"“I can’t and I don’t want to say anything about that. What I can say is he is not injured and it is not for disciplinary reasons.“It is a time of the year when a manager get some informations then I have to react on that.”"

Harry Wilson has been the subject of interest from Burnley, said WalesOnline, so Origi may be required to stick around for squad depth purposes.

He’ll get his chance in the FA Cup, but Jota’s arrival means he’ll be relied upon less and less to back up Sadio Mane and we could see him gone in the next few seasons.

Those who demand instant action now will have to temper their expectations.
