Another Liverpool star has COVID-19.
Jurgen Klopp has already had to deal with Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri testing positive for the virus, and now the international break has dealt more bad news.
Shaqiri’s was later found to be a false-positive result and the forward played for Switzerland as they lost 1-0 to Spain in the Nations League, wrote the Echo.
It means he’ll be available to play against Everton; a fixture in which he scored a delightful goal last season.
Thiago is now out of quarantine but will need to work on getting his fitness up to speed. The Spaniard has played just 45 minutes of football for Liverpool and probably won’t start in the derby because of that.
Klopp may have to do something different with his midfield because Foot 224 journalist Amadou Makadji reported that Naby Keita has tested positive for COVID-19 while on international duty with Guinea.
Four other teammates have contracted the virus, said Makadji, in a move that shows the pointlessness of hosting games during the global pandemic.
Naby Keita had previously started all the Premier League games this season and was slowly becoming the player we all thought he was when he signed from Leipzig.
That was important because it’ll give Klopp something different to think about now Jordan Henderson is back from injury. Henderson started as England beat Belgium in their Nations League game, and should be in contention to play against Everton.
With Hendo back in the side, Keita will have to work harder to come back from his time in quarantine. The Guinea midfielder will also miss the Champions League game against Ajax and his chance to make his mark at the highest level.
We’re seeing worrying amounts of Liverpool players go down with COVID-19 and it appears as if Keita is just the latest of them. Be prepared for more bad news.
