Danny Murphy wants this Liverpool star dropped against Everton.

Writing in his column with the Daily Mail, the former Reds midfielder took aim at one of Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Danny Murphy played 249 games in all competitions for Liverpool, scoring 44 goals and registering 40 assists in the process.

He’ll have been delighted to see Liverpool win the Premier League last season, but has had his word on an area of concern for Klopp this season.

We got off to an excellent start, beating Leeds, Chelsea and Arsenal in the first three games but then disaster struck against Aston Villa.

The less said about that, the better, but it’s raised questions about certain players and whether they deserve to be taken out of the firing line.

One of those was Roberto Firmino, who missed some key chances and looked off the pace – even if he went away with Brazil and played well.

That’s not the player Murphy was talking about. No, Murphy wants to see Joe Gomez left out of the side and Fabinho moved in to partner Virgil van Dijk.

While Fabinho did well against Chelsea, his ‘sacrifice’ for the team isn’t something that a side like Liverpool should ever have to entertain.

Murphy thinks that Joe Gomez looks down on confidence and not fully match fit, which is a weird thing to say for someone who has featured heavily this season.

"“He does not look as confident, or even fit, compared to his prime and the manager faces a big decision whether to take him out of the firing line.”"

Joel Matip is now back in training but might not be available for this game, while Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane and Thiago are back and could all feature against Everton on Saturday.

None of those could be match fit, and Matip definitely won’t be, so Murphy said he wants to see Fabinho slot alongside van Dijk for the Everton game.

"“I would say it would be better for Liverpool if Fabinho partnered Virgil van Dijk for the derby, particularly as Klopp should have other strong options in midfield.”"

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, James Rodriguez and Richarilson are in excellent form so the whole of the Liverpool back five need to be back to their best.
