Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has come out fighting.

The bad news continues to grow for Liverpool fans with the news that Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara are both ruled out of the upcoming Champions League tie against Ajax in Amsterdam.

It’s been a wild few weeks for Liverpool as they quickly went from being labeled as hot favorites to defend their Premier League title to getting hammered 7-2 at Aston Villa.

Two weeks later, Liverpool lost their star defender after a season-ending injury and now their future at the top of the game is being questioned.

For many fans, the slump is very real and the persistent injuries are signs that things could be slipping out of our hands. However, Jurgen Klopp is having none of the criticisms or the idea that Liverpool’s season is already over without Virgil van Dijk leading the backline.

After fighting off questions about the weekend’s Merseyside derby debacle during his recent press conference Klopp went straight into combat mode.

The German was having none of the theories that he should have foreseen the Van Dijk injury by signing another central defender in the transfer window, before telling reporters that Liverpool will have a proper go and will play with a no-excuses mentality in Holland.

"“Yes, we went in the season with three centre-halves, plus Fabinho as a cover, plus young kids as cover. That’s usually quite a good number. As a football club, it’s difficult to have four world-class centre-halves. Immediately on one side it’s pretty expensive, plus one of them doesn’t play for a long time” he said after being asked about his transfer plans.“We will give it a proper try, I promise you. No excuses for nothing.”"

Next. Joe Gomez must decide whether he’s elite. dark

It’s a fighting attitude that Liverpool fans will want to see from the leader of the club and we all hope that it flows down on to the squad in the coming weeks. With the number of games coming thick and fast we will need to dig in with a grit and determination that can only come from true champions.
