Left-central midfield: Gini Wijnaldum

For the first time in a long time, Klopp is looking a little bit thin in midfield. As discussed earlier, Fabinho will probably play as a defender while Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are out through injury.

That leaves Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and James Milner as the fit senior options, while Curtis Jones could play a role there.

The problem with that is fitness. Henderson will be tired after missing most of preseason, featuring for England and then playing against Everton.

So will Wijnaldum, but he’s got the benefit of a full preseason under his belt and he’ll get the nod on the left of the midfield three.

Defensive midfield: James Milner

Klopp often turns to Milner when he wants some control and leadership in the middle of the park and he’ll do so against Ajax. This might not be the most inspired choice, but it’s one that’s sensible and we know what we’ll get from Milly.

Right-central midfield: Naby Keita

Keita has played well this season but missed the Everton game and should be fresh for Ajax. He starts.
