Liverpool lineup vs Midtjylland: Williams IN, Firmino in midfield
Liverpool take on Midtjylland on Tuesday night – this is our predicted lineup.
The Reds had a good start to their European campaign by beating Ajax 1-0 courtesy of a Nicolas Tagliafico own goal.
Having sealed an important away win, Jurgen Klopp’s side will be eager to register their second straight victory, which would make it the first time since 2009/10 that Liverpool won their first two matches in any European competition.
The Reds have faced Danish sides on four previous occasions. They took on Odense in the 1983/84 European Cup and Brondby in the 1995/96 UEFA Cup. Their last meeting was also at Anfield in October which they lost 0-1.
Midtjylland are the punching bags of the group and having been drubbed 0-4 by Atalanta, Liverpool seem heavy favorites to win on Tuesday. However, Brian Priske’s side shouldn’t be written off as you never know when they’d cause an upset.
The club may be battling with some fitness issues ahead of the Champions League game. Jurgen Klopp remained tight-lipped about the chances of Thiago, Joel Matip and Naby Keita seeing action on Tuesday night.
When asked if the trio would play, the official club website reported that the manager was unsure.
"He said: “Don’t think so. It’s still what I said last week, we look day by day. It looks like we will need a few more days. For tomorrow night, they probably will not be ready.”"
We could see a team similar to the one that beat Sheffield United on the weekend, or we could see a changed lineup. Make sure to keep an eye on this one, because anything could happen!
Now, let’s take a look at the Liverpool lineup Jurgen Klopp could field against Midtjylland and don’t hesitate to leave your thoughts on it in the comment section.
Alisson
Us fans are obviously thrilled to see the Brazilian back in action after he missed the last few fixtures. Alisson was between the sticks against Sheffield United and put in a decent show. He’ll definitely don the gloves on Tuesday and will be hoping to put in a strong performance and keep his second clean sheet of the season.
With Virgil van Dijk sidelined for probably the remainder of the season, Klopp will be hoping to have Alisson fit. His presence in goal will certainly calm the defenders as well since Adrian looked a tad shaky.
Liverpool haven’t kept a clean sheet in a Champions League match at Anfield since that memorable victory over Barcelona almost 18 months ago and Alisson will be looking to keep the Midtjylland attackers at bay on Tuesday.
