Liverpool beat Midtjylland 2-0 at Anfield. Here are our player ratings.

Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp fielded a heavily rotated lineup as the entire front three were rested, while Xherdan Shaqiri and James Milner were also handed starts.

Diogo Jota continued his fine run of from by scoring the first goal of the night. The Portuguese international tapped home after Xherdan Shaqiri played Trent Alexander-Arnold through with a clever one-two.

It was Jota’s third goal for Liverpool and his second in a row following the winner he scored against Sheffield United on Saturday.

Mohamed Salah rounded things off with a penalty in added-time after he was sent tumbling by Paulinho.

Evander went close to scoring for the Danes, who displayed flashes of quality but were unable to put Liverpool under any serious pressure.

It wasn’t all sunshine and roses as Fabinho limped off the pitch after 30 minutes and was replaced by Rhys Williams. The Brazilian has a suspected hamstring injury and Williams may be thrown into the spotlight this weekend.

Joel Matip wasn’t deemed fit enough for a role on the bench and his injury history is beginning to become a serious issue.

Alisson Becker was in goal again, so let’s start the Liverpool player ratings with him.

7. . . . Alisson

Alisson made a good early save against Anders Dreyer to deny the Danes and was proactive in coming off his line when called upon. The team look so much more composed when the Brazilian starts, and it’s good to see him in action.
