CM – Georginio Wijnaldum

Trying to find new things to say about Wijnaldum at Liverpool is increasingly difficult, but I will say this: Klopp loves him, especially for big matches, and so the Dutchman starts.

City do have a midfield that’s fairly tricky and creative, so ensuring the ball is protected and getting a foot in here and there will be two factors that help to decide the outcome of this game. Gini can do both of those things, and when the game stretches out, he’ll be able to provide a threat moving forward.

Wijnaldum is another who could probably do with a rest, and although Curtis Jones played really well in the Champions League, you can’t see anyone but Gini in the side for this one.

DM – Jordan Henderson

With the absence of Fabinho, Henderson is going to have to fit into that role as the deepest-lying midfielder. That doesn’t necessarily suit the skipper too well, who is excellent at getting close to goal and providing a little sprinkle of creativity, but those plans will have to be shelved for now.

The voice, leadership and energy will be vital if Liverpool want to grab a win here.

CM – Naby Keita

Another player back from injury, Keita should slot back into the side and can make the difference on Sunday. The Guinea international is another who was suffering from a mystery injury, but is back to training.

He started the season well, and this is another chance for the former RB Leipzig man to put his best foot forward while the competition is injured.
