Liverpool’s injury crisis has gone from bad to work.

Joe Gomez has suffered an injury while training with England.

The 23-year-old was included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for their matches against Ireland, Belgium and Iceland. However, Sky Sports has reported that Gomez has sustained an injury during a training session with the Three Lions. The extent of this injury is yet to confirmed.

Gomez has featured in 12 of Liverpool’s matches this season so far, providing an assist against Atalanta last week. If he is injured for a long time, it will undoubtedly be a major blow for us. With Virgil van Dijk out, the England international was expected to play a key role for the team.

Now that Trent Alexander-Arnold is also sidelined, he could’ve been used in the right-back as well. It’s a double whammy of the likes Liverpool can ill afford.

Lady luck hasn’t been too kind with Liverpool this season given the injuries they have faced. Thiago and Fabinho also missed the last few matches due to injury, but both could be back in action after the international break according to the Express. The latter is someone who could be used in the centre-back position, partnering Joel Matip.

Fabinho can also be deployed as a right-back, a position in which he played for a while during his time at Monaco. Gomez has had lengthy spells on the sidelines during the last three seasons but this is a time when Jurgen Klopp can’t afford to lose him.

Right now, it will be essential for Matip to be in full fitness because things could go south for Liverpool if he suffers an injury.

We won’t be able to find out much about the extent of Gomez’s injury before Southgate addresses the media. At this moment, we can only hope that the 23-year-old won’t be out for long.

Despite the injuries, Liverpool have managed to get the results and are currently just one point behind Premier League leaders Leicester City while having kept a clean sheet in each of their three Champions League fixtures so far.

Following the conclusion of the international break, the Reds first play Brendan Rodgers’ side at Anfield on the 21st.
