Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique wants a new deal handed out.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had a fine outing at Anfield on Sunday, winning 3-0 courtesy of goals from Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino while Jonny Evans scored an own goal to open the scoring.

Georginio Wijnaldum was the only regular member of the midfield who survived the international break, and he made his 200th appearance for the club against the Foxes and capped it off with a dominant display in midfield.

With Jordan Henderson missing, Wijnaldum had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and he carried them out well.

Following the match, Enrique took to social media to praise Wijnaldum. His post had a list containing of the number of matches won by Liverpool players after reaching 200 appearances and the Dutchman was at the top with 133 wins, surpassing former left-back Alan Kennedy.

"Enrique said: “He definitely deserves a new contract. Always play well. Always available to play.”"

Wijnaldum has been a regular for Liverpool since joining the club from Newcastle in the summer of 2016. So far, he has bagged 19 goals and 16 assists across all competitions.

For some time, Jordan Henderson was Liverpool’s most underrated player but now, that tag belongs to Wijnaldum. The 30-year-old works tirelessly for his team in midfield but often gets noticed.

He is an extremely versatile player who is capable of playing a variety of roles in the middle of the park. This is proven by his recent performances for Netherlands as he netted thrice in their last 2 fixtures.

Wijnaldum has entered the final year of his contract and has been linked to a number of top clubs lately. A report from Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed that Real Madrid and Inter Milan are interested in signing the Dutch international.

A player of Wijnaldum’s qualities is essential to Liverpool, not to forget he has a very good fitness record too. The 30-year-old has hardly had any spell on the sidelines since his PSV days and given that some of the Reds midfielders are injury-prone, Klopp won’t have to worry a lot with him being available.
