Gini Wijnaldum (7/10)

With Williams at right-back, Wijnaldum was always going to have to drop back and help the inexperienced defender with his duties and we saw the Dutchman frequently doing so.

This man is so hard to nick the ball off and his shepherding attempts were strong and powerful, while Gini was able to ghost around the opposition press with exciting ease.

Curtis Jones (6/10)

Jones was part of the ponderous central midfield but brightened up a little when Jota came on, as he combined well with the Portugal international to set him free on a run that ended up with a blocked shot.

His introduction to life in the first team has been really encouraging, but this was another night for him to learn some lessons. We could have done with more probing, forward runs from the youngster.

James Milner (5.5/10)

Made one massive run but tripped over his own feet at the end and that summed up the state of this performance from Liverpool. Provided voice and leadership, as always, but couldn’t really galvanise this side.
