Centre-midfield: Jake Cain or Leighton Clarkson

This is a little bit of a cheat, I know, but I really feel that Curtis Jones will start this one on the bench and give either Jake Cain or Leighton Clarkson their Champions League debut.

While Jones is young and has lots in the tank, he’s also been asked to play a lot of minutes recently and will be required against Fulham.

Cain and Clarkson have been regulars in the Champions League squad, and depending on who fits the profile of the midfield that Klopp wants to go with, I can see one of the duo getting a start.

Their chances are helped by the paucity of options. Fabinho probably won’t be involved, Jones could get a rest, the Ox still isn’t ready to play and James Milner is out injured.

But this could be one of the good things to come from this crazy season. More Academy lads could be tested against senior chances, which may give them more of a chance to break through into the first team.

At the very least, it’ll give potential loan clubs or permanent destinations a better idea of what they can do – while increasing their value.
