4. Jerzy Dudek

Houllier signed the Polish goalkeeper in 2001 from Feyenoord and he became a regular in the team instantly. Dydek’s only silverware under the Frenchman’s tutelage was the League Cup in 2002/03 as he was adjudged the Man of the Match in the final against Manchester United.

"Speaking of his performance, Sir Alex Ferguson said:  “Their goalkeeper has won them the game, sometimes you just have to put your hands up on these occasions. Dudek has won them the cup. He deserved to be man of the match.”"

The finest hour of Dudek’s career came under the management of Rafa Benitez in the iconic Champions League Final in Istanbul. With the scores 3-3, he made a fine double save from Andriy Shevchenko during extra time while also saving the Ukrainian’s penalty in the shootout, which won Liverpool the tournament. Dudek also kept out Andrea Pirlo’s spot-kick.

This was the Pole’s crowning moment in Liverpool but following the arrival of Pepe Reina, he fell down the pecking order. Dudek eventually left Anfield in 2007 and spent the remainder of his career at Real Madrid.

The former goalkeeper had some fine moments at Liverpool and is still fondly remembered by the fans. It goes without saying that Dudek was among the finest signings made by Houllier.
