2. John Arne Riise

One of the greatest Norwegian footballers of all-time, Riise joined Liverpool from Monaco in 2001, shortly after the team won the UEFA Cup. He had a great debut, scoring the opening goal of the UEFA Super Cup against Bayern Munich.

Riise soon became an integral player for Liverpool, putting in some fine performances as a left-back as well as a left midfielder. He provided the assist for Gerrard’s header in the 2005 Champions League Final which drove the team to come back from 0-3 to 3-3. Even though his shot was saved in the penalty shootout by Milan goalie Dida, the Reds went on to lift the trophy.

Riise stayed at Liverpool till 2008 before joining Roma. The Norwegian made 348 appearances for the club, netting 31 goals.
