A Liverpool player has ‘limitless’ potential.

That’s the opinion of those who watched the Reds take on Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino handed Liverpool three points and a clear lead at the top of the Premier League table, but it was the performances of one of the team’s younger members that stood out.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has been forced to deal with an unprecedented injury crisis as first-team players keep dropping like flies, and as a result there’ve been unexpected minutes for several squad members.

Guys like Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips wouldn’t have expected to be playing for Liverpool this season, but both have done well when they’ve been given a chance. Phillips and Williams have Premier League experience now, although it was the former who was given another chance against Spurs.

However, it was the performance of Curtis Jones that caught the eye. The 19-year-old has played over 1,000 minutes this season and has taken advantage of the current midfield injury crisis.

With Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain recovering from injury, Fabinho in midfield, and James Milner out, there have been plenty of chances for Jones to impress.

Klopp has selected him in some of the biggest games of the season so far, and the Scouser has featured four times in the Champions League and eight in the Premier League.

This match against Spurs was probably the biggest of the season. The winner would haul themselves three points clear of the chasing pack, while the loser would have to make up that ground all over again.

Despite Liverpool’s problems, they emerged victorious and a large part of that was down to Jones. If his form can continue, he’ll keep more senior figures out of the first team. We wouldn’t have expected that at the start of the campaign.
