Liverpool endured a disappointing 1-1 draw again. West Bromwich Albion.
The Reds had a brilliant start to the game with Sadio Mane opening the scoring. Despite bossing the game during the first half, they were unable to cash in on the chances they created.
In the 45, West Brom came back strong and eventually found their equaliser through Semi Ajayi. It was a late blow, but one the Baggies deserves. The Reds were flat during the second half and struggled to create anything of note.
Joel Matip limped off the field after picking up an abducted injury in the 60th minute and had to be replaced by Rhys Williams. It’s pretty much the worst bit of news Liverpool fans could get right now, and we’ll have to see how that impacts the squad moving forward.
"After the game, Sky Sports reported that Klopp said: “Joel told me he felt something in his abductor and that’s obviously not too good.”"
Another interesting thing to see was how Jurgen Klopp used his substitutes bench. The gaffer has been vocal in his desire to see the Premier League allow teams to make five changes, but he didn’t make any (apart from the enforced Matip swap) until the 82nd. What does that tell us about how he views Liverpool strength in depth?
This was the first time Liverpool dropped points in a home Premier League fixture this season. It also marks their fourth successive winless result against the Baggies.
However, despite the draw, the Reds maintain top spot in the league table, three points above Everton. Tottenham Hotspur could have climbed back up the table had they beaten Wolves, but they conceded late on and will have to settle for fifth.
Now, let’s take a look at three incidents which played a key role in the match ending the way it did.
