Jurgen Klopp provides crumb of comfort with injury update
Jurgen Klopp has provided Liverpool fans a tiny crumb of comfort.
The Reds will play Newcastle United on Wednesday and will look to get back to winning ways after a draw against West Brom on Sunday.
Steve Bruce’s Magpies shouldn’t provide too much attacking threat. They look to contain better sides, and will largely forgo any ambitions to get near the Liverpool goal.
Klopp’s squad has been thinned out since the start of the season, and we saw Joel Matip join the butchers’ bill after he limped out of the contest against the Baggies.
Rhys Williams is likely to start, as could Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Oxlade-Chamberlain is on his own journey back to full fitness, while the Reds’ midfield options continue to be depleted thanks to Naby Keita and Thiago’s problems.
We’re yet to see Thiago in full flow. Everton robbed the Spaniard of half of his debut Premier League season, but Klopp has provided a crumb of comfort in his pre-match press conference.
He is back in training and has completed a few days’ worth this week. He may be available against the Geordies, although Klopp was hedging his bets when speaking to the press.
"The official club website reported that he said: “Thiago did parts of training so far, was in… today is Sunday, so on Friday he trained the full session but the session was a reduced session, so he could do that.“He has to be part of team training, it’s not about training one day with the team and then you can play football in the Premier League again. It looks quite promising in the moment but I cannot say more about it, to be honest.”"
Thiago being available would be a massive bonus for Liverpool. The team struggled to break down West Brom during the second half of the game, and the former Barcelona conductor would be able to find passes and start moves that few in the game can.
Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson are excellent players and perfect for this side, but neither has the creativity and range of passing that Thiago has. Nor does Keita or Oxlade-Chamberlain, even if those two bring other unique attributes to the side.
As things stand, it appears as if this match will be one too soon for Thiago. But things are looking better every week and that gives us something to look forward to.
