RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold

The England international didn’t have the best of starts to the season but has improved lately, especially following his return from injury. Alexander-Arnold will undoubtedly start at right-back and will be looking to add to his assist tally which is four so far and just two in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old could well try and chip in with a goal from a free-kick if Liverpool receives one in a scoreable area.

CB: Rhys Williams

The one thing which we wanted to avoid at this time was Matip being injured. However, the Cameroonian sustained an adductor injury during the match against West Brom and Klopp said following the Newcastle game that he could be out for around three weeks.

That’s a massive blow and it only leaves one of Williams and Nathaniel Phillips to choose from. Both have not been very convincing lately but for now, I am going for the former to start.

Williams had a role to play in West Brom’s equaliser as his header led to the corner which gave them the opportunity to score. The teenager will be starting in his 11th match this season and he’ll be looking to put on an improved performance.

However, it won’t be much of a surprise if Klopp opts to give Phillips his fourth Premier League start this season.

CB: Fabinho

The Brazilian has played the role of a makeshift centre-back brilliantly and with Matip out, there’s hardly any chance of him not playing in that position for a long time.

Fabinho has been solid for Liverpool at the heart of the defence and will be looking to keep the Southampton attackers at bay on Tuesday. We could also see him initiate attacks from his long balls.

LB: Andy Robertson

The Scottish international has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season so far and he will undoubtedly start on Tuesday. Robertson will be keen on being a menace to the Southampton attackers while troubling their defenders through his forward runs and crosses.

The 26-year-old currently has five assists in the Premier League and will be keen on increasing that tally against the Saints this week.
