A shocking short-corner

After the constant passing and movement in the second half, hopes of a draw rested on a set-piece. Thankfully for Liverpool, they won two during stoppage time, with Alisson coming up for both.

The first corner was utilised well, as Andy Robertson’s outswinger found the head of Sadio Mane. The Senegalese’s attempt went just over the bar, and that seemed like Liverpool’s last chance. Yet, the Reds were offered another lifeline.

In literally the dying seconds of the game, Andy Robertson looked set to deliver in another outswinger, and hope that someone could bury it into the back of the net. However, that chance never came, because the duo from the previous corner, Mane and Robbo, decided to take a short-corner instead.

Anyone who knows football would understand that you never take a chance with the final whistle from a corner. Swing it into the box and hope for the best. Instead, Robertson ended up passing the ball backwards and before you know it, the game’s done.

This is the second time in three games this has happened, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander Arnold the guilty parties in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Anfield against West Brom.

Carragher had his say on this decision as well, as he was left flabbergasted by the short-corner on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

"He said: “What are Liverpool doing for that final corner?! They have 10 seconds to score and they play it short. It is absolutely unbelievable.”"
