Liverpool have offered David Alaba a €10 million package.

Empire Of The Kop, via Goal journalist Romeo Agresti, has reported that Liverpool have offered the Austrian star a contract.

David Alaba will become a free agent at the end of the season. As one of the few elite footballers available for no transfer fee, the Bayern Munich star will be a wanted man.

According to the report, Real Madrid have also offered Alaba a deal. Both Liverpool and Madrid are prepared to pay the man €10 million for the pleasure of his service. Juventus were also interested, wrote EOFK, but can’t afford him at that price.

Liverpool have already made one move for a Munich star whose contract was due to expire. Thiago Alcantara was signed in the summer after he made it clear that he wouldn’t be renewing his Bayern deal – while the German connection continues with Jurgen Klopp at the helm.

As a versatile defender who can also appear in midfield, Alaba would be a highly valuable addition to the squad. Liverpool currently needs another central defender, while Kostas Tsimikas’s injury problems mean that further back-up at left-back is always valuable.

After struggling through December and the start of January, bringing in a player of Alaba’s quality could prove to be a real boost to the squad. The Austrian legend is a winner, and could seamlessly slot into the side and provide his experience and drive.

With Gini Wijnaldum’s contract about to expire, and it seems like Wijnaldum will leave for free, Alaba could also offer cover for that role.

Madrid seem to be ahead of Liverpool in the pecking order, said the report, but hopefully Thiago and Klopp can convince the star that Anfield is the place to be.
