3 moments that shaped Liverpool’s shocking defeat to Burnley
Divock Origi’s unfortunate 1v1 miss
Divock Origi hasn’t been given plenty of opportunities this season. The signings of Diogo Jota and Takumi Minamino have greatly restricted the playing time he has been given. However, he was offered a surprise start in the game against Burnley.
Unfortunately for the Belgian, he couldn’t make the most of his chance though as he missed a clear-cut chance just a couple of minutes before the half-time whistle was blown. Burnely’s skipper, Ben Mee, mistimed a back-pass to his goalkeeper from the halfway line.
Origi was the only player nearby and pounced on the English defender’s mistake immediately. The number 27 was through on goal, having ample time to pick his spot in Nick Pope’s goal. Ultimately, it was the ample time which cost him.
Divock tried to do too much with the ball. He opened up his body perfectly and attempted to slot the ball into the far corner. However, he got too much purchase on his shot and the ball crashed against the crossbar.
The miss denied Liverpool a first-half lead, which could have boosted the side’s confidence after all their efforts in recent games going in vain.
