Here are the Liverpool player ratings after the 3-2 defeat to Man Utd in the FA Cup Fourth Round.

After weeks of sombre dejection on the footballing front, the feeling of defeat has somewhat desensitised to Liverpool fans. This wasn’t quite as bad as it has been.

The Reds drew 0-0 with the same opponents, fierce rivals Manchester United, last week. This week in the typically difficult Premier League tie in the FA Cup, Old Trafford awaited.

Liverpool took the lead early on after a wonderful through ball from Roberto Firmino found Mo Salah who chipped over the onrushing Dean Henderson. It was a delightful take from the Egyptian.

The lead would only last nine minutes though. Gini Wijnaldum lost the ball trying to lay off to Firmino on the edge of the United box. And as United do so well, they countered, with Marcus Rashford finding Mason Greenwood – who finished emphatically.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men then took the lead four minutes after half-time. A mistake from Rhys Williams allowed Rashford through on goal, which he took consummately despite Alisson’s best efforts.

The Reds levelled after an excellent piece of work from Roberto Firmino allowed James Milner to dummy, and Mo Salah finished through Henderson’s legs. Game on – but it wasn’t to be.

A wonderfully crafted free-kick after a questionable foul on Edinson Cavani was converted by Bruno Fernandes, sending Manchester United through to the fifth round.

Here are the Liverpool player ratings, starting with the goalkeeper.

Goalkeeper: Alisson – 6/10

The Brazilian could do nothing much about the three goals, despite getting a touch on Rashford’s. He, on the whole, played as well as he could have done, despite some shaky moments in distribution.

Alisson’s been Liverpool’s best player so far this year though and deserves recognition for that at least. So after conceding three, how do the back four number up?
