Right-back: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6/10

You can see the lad from West Derby progressing back into the swing of things – and you can see the effort – but the quality is still not there.

The crossing is getting more and more penetrative, accurate and troubling, and the passing crisper. But defensively, Trent was repeatedly exposed by Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw and ultimately needed a bit more restraint. But not bad.

Centre-back: Rhys Williams – 3/10

I feel genuinely sorry for the young man, and it ultimately comes down to the club not investing in a new centre back that he has been put through this situation.

He was directly responsible for Rashford’s goal and looked unstable when being dribbled at. Despite looking very comfortable on the ball, it was an awful day for him.

Centre-back: Fabinho – 6/10

The Brazilian again had a decent game playing in his unnatural position, but he gave away the “foul” that led to Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick.

He couldn’t have done much else, and he certainly didn’t do anything else wrong in the circumstances.

Left-back: Andy Robertson – 4/10

Scotland’s skipper was seriously not on it offensively today.

Although he defended quite well against Greenwood and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, he couldn’t stop the former netting despite his best efforts of screaming at him from behind. Needs improvement against Tottenham.

How do the midfielders rank after the Reds defeat?
