Moussa Niakhate

Another tall ball playing centre-back with pace. But Moussa Niakhate is a solid option. The Mainz defender has been the rare bright spark in a pretty stodgy season for Jurgen Klopp’s former side.

Niakhate ranks well in the Bundesliga in terms of his defensive duel percentage. He is in the top ten.

He’s still relatively young at 24 years of age and could be a long term solution too.

Mainz have had a lot of financial trouble in the past year so it could be the right time to pounce for the French centre-back who is valued at £8.00 million by Transfermarkt.

Probably a more expensive option than the aforementioned two. However still one to ponder for the Reds.

Gleison Bremer

Definitely the most expensive option on the list, Gleison Bremer has been a revelation in the Serie A this season and clubs like Chelsea as well as Liverpool have been linked with the Brazilian recently.

He’s one of Torino’s prized assets and could cost the Reds upwards of £20 million. A figure which might be a bit too steep considering the purported financial problems of the Reds’ board.

Nonetheless, the tall and pacey Brazilian could be the perfect option for the long term future of the club. He is an astute decision maker, ranks in the top lists for most defensive actions in the Serie A and has the aerial ability which could help the club dominate at the back.

At 23 years of age, he might not be the calm and experienced figure the Reds need right now, but surely he would be a better options than the Reds’ current choices.

Sebastian Walukiewicz

The Pole has been linked with a potential move to the Reds earlier this season. He is strong, blessed with enough pace to play in a high-line and an excellent tackler.

Walukiewicz would undoubtedly be available on the cheap considering he plays for a relative minnow in Italian football in Cagliari.

The Polish defender has stood out from the pack despite this. At 20 years of age Sebastian Walukiewicz is showing promising potential.

He has the height to compete for aerial duels, the strength to help him settle into the Premier League, but once again just like with Bremer the question mark will be about his age.

It will be a tough choice for the Reds. There will be a lot of evaluating to do. However, there are options out there. And those options are certainly better than playing a young 19 year old who is clearly for the time being out of his depth.

If the board cares about the longevity of Klopp’s project and the success of the club then they will act accordingly.

If not it could be a dire few months coming up for the Reds.

And that might be the best case scenario.
