Liverpool fans love star’s performance in 3-2 loss to Man U
Some Liverpool fans love how Roberto Firmino performed in the FA Cup clash against Manchester United.
Jurgen Klopp picked a strong side to go to Old Trafford, and Firmino was part of a front three that included Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones.
When he’s at his best, the Brazilian is a creative force capable of unlocking the meanest defences; but we’ve hardly seen that version of the playmaker.
But Bobby was back in the FA Cup, and one assist drew praise from across the football landscape. It was a defence-splitting past that found it’s way to the feet of the speeding Salah, who calmly finished.
That play reminded us of when times were good, before the four-game scoreless streak and before we surrendered our place at the top of the table.
Perhaps expecting this same group of players to perform at the same level for a third season in a row, during a global pandemic, when muscles and sinews are stretched and fatigued more than ever, was a desperate hope.
Frustration comes when we watch this elite forward line fail to things we look for granted over the past 24 months and hope blossoms when we see Firmino and Salah combine as they did in the good old days.
Hopefully, this can spark a revival in form and fortune because Liverpool and Klopp need his big players to deliver big moments. This was a big moment, and it can be the springboard to more.
Liverpool are still a work in progress
Liverpool still lost the game, and Klopp’s poor history in the FA Cup continues. However, if this gives the squad more time to rest their weary bones, allows the manager to focus on the Premier League, and oversees an improvement in results, will we complain too much?
I doubt it. And anyway, at least we have Firmino’s performance to look back on with pride.
