Liverpool fans are delighted about an update manager Jurgen Klopp has delivered before the Reds take on Tottenham Hotspur.

This team have been hit by an injury crisis the likes of which we’ve never seen before. As well as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez picking up long-term knocks, Liverpool has frequently had to contend with absences from Joel Matip, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson, Kostas Tsimikas, Naby Keita and Diogo Jota.

Klopp has had to restyle his team to accommodate those injuries, and that’s lead to some changes in how Liverpool play football.

Their intensity has dropped, they press less, they move the ball forward with less speed. And a lot of that is down to how Fabinho, and sometimes Jordan Henderson, have been forced into defence.

Liverpool should be able to welcome Henderson back into midfield for the Tottenham game, and that will have a massive impact.

"As reported by the official club website, Klopp said: “No new cases [injuries] and Hendo and Joel trained yesterday with the team fully.“Like always with these things we have to see how they react overnight and what they can do today, but they trained yesterday.”"

It should mean that Trent Alexander-Arnold has more protection on the right flank, which will let the star move forward more freely.

Hendo is also excellent at playing quick diagonal passes that land in front of Andy Robertson or Alexander-Arnold, which allows Liverpool to attack at pace and get in behind packed defences.

Jose Mourinho is sure to play a safety-first approach with this match. Hendo back in the side should help to combat that; as well as providing the leadership skills to take the occasion by the scruff of the neck.

Liverpool has had a poor 2021, but their performance against Manchester United in the FA Cup provided a glimmer of hope. Mohamed Salah got back in the scoresheet, Roberto Firmino dropped into space and was at his creative best.

Next. Three players Liverpool can now approach for free transfers. dark

If those two can continue with this tiny run of good form, the Reds are in with a chance. The back four will just have to contain Harry Kane and Son Heung-min first.
