Takumi Minamino subject of deadline-busting loan offer
Liverpool attacker Takumi Minamino has been the subject of a deadline-busting offer.
Let’s be honest, the writing has been on the wall for some time now. The Japanese international has played just six minutes since he scored against Crystal Palace as Jurgen Klopp seems to have fallen out of love with Taki.
The Athletic’s Dan Sheldon has reported that Minamino has been the subject of a bid and could move late into the January transfer window.
If Liverpool says yes to the deal, it’ll be a really interesting glimpse of where they view their squad depth and how they think about the former RB Salzburg man.
Liverpool transfer news: Takumi Minamino could be off
The ineffective Divock Origi seems to be above Minamino in the pecking order, who has never really been given the chance to find his feet in England.
Sheldon has said that Southampton wants to take the 25-year-old on loan. This is a move that would make sense, as the Saints play a similar style of football to Liverpool and have a proven track record of improving players.
Interestingly, it would also be a reverse of the well-trodden path that’s seen Liverpool sign the cream of the crop that Southampton has to offer.
The deal for Minamino would be until the end of the season, said the piece on The Athletic, but there are no more details coming out at present. Could we see Southampton extend the loan spell until the end of 2021/22? Possibly, but not if Origi moves on.
We need some squad depth, while the Japanese international could get some extra first-team football in a team that plays a high energy brand of football.
This could be the making of the player if things turn out well at the south coast.
In other news, the deal for Ben Davies has been confirmed, while Ozan Kabak could also be on the way.
