Here are the player ratings after Liverpool’s second consecutive home defeat, this time to Brighton.

Steven Alzate scrambled the only goal for the visitors, with the Seagulls thoroughly deserving the points.

Liverpool Twitter swirled with rumours pre-match about the fitness of Thiago, Mo Salah and Alisson. Luckily the former two were in the starting eleven, but the Brazilian ‘keeper failed to make the cut due to illness.

The Reds stuck with the diamond that proved so successful against West Ham United, with Xherdan Shaqiri at the peak and Gini Wijnaldum in the six.

The first half was, in uncertain terms, a bore. There were no shots on target between the two sides and instantly forgettable for any watching fan.

Brighton was looking to push left wing-back Dan Burn into the box whenever they could. It would help result in the opener with Nat Phillips’ clearance rebounding off a combination of Leandro Trossard and Steven Alzate.

Graham Potter’s men defended resolutely and were excellent defensively, whilst Klopp’s men were utterly one dimensional.

It’s the first time Liverpool have lost consecutive home games in the league since 2012, and Brighton’s first win at Anfield since 1982.

Here are the player ratings, starting with the backup goalkeeper.

Goalkeeper: Caoimhin Kelleher – 6

One of the only players without fault. He couldn’t have done anything about the goal and his distribution was sound.

The Irishman hasn’t done himself any harm once again in Alisson’s absence and will continue to improve the more games’ he plays.
