Three home defeats on the bounce. Here are Liverpool’s player ratings from the 4-1 loss to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side ran riot in the last 20 minutes of the game, with Liverpool finding themselves victims of their own doing.

The first half saw spells of decent football from both sides, with both defences doing well enough to restrict the opposite side. Fabinho did cost us a penalty towards the end of the half, but Ilkay Gundogan ballooned his attempt over the crossbar.

Liverpool player ratings – how bad was Alisson?

An early second-half goal from Ilkay Gundogan gave his side the lead, but Mo Salah’s penalty brought the Reds level in the 63rd minute. From then though, it all went downhill for Liverpool.

Alisson made a couple of costly errors with his feet, both leading to goals from Man City. The first error saw Phil Foden receive the ball from outside the box, maneuver his way through Liverpool’s left-side and give Gundogan an empty net to aim at, which he obliged to.

The second error was on the same side and was far worse, as he gifted Bernardo Silva the ball right outside the box. Silva advanced and chipped the ball when he saw Raheem Sterling free at the far post. The former-red made no mistake with a simple header.

The fourth goal was simply a rocket from Phil Foden, who was later crowned man of the match, and rightfully so.

There were spells in the game which Liverpool can be proud of, but to lose 4-1 with an awful display in the last 20 minutes is simply unacceptable.

Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker – 2

Probably should be given a 1, but my heart won’t let me. The Brazilian’s mistakes in the second half proved costly, there’s no other way to put it.

Our number one returned to the side after recovering from illness, but it certainly didn’t look like that was the case. He gifted City the ball in close quarters twice in the space of four minutes and could do nothing to make amends for it.
