Defensive midfield: Gini Wijnaldum – 4

Not a lot to say about Gini, really. Performed some of his best ball retention in the first half, but didn’t really contribute on either end of the pitch.

Some may say that he is to blame for City’s third goal as he didn’t put Alisson in the most comfortable of positions, but that is way too harsh in my opinion.

Central midfield: Thiago – 4

After heavily impressing in consecutive away trips to London, Thiago has now put in two consecutive poor performances at Anfield.

The Spaniard’s role is to give Liverpool the cutting edge which they do lack at times, but he failed to do so today. Although he did make some nice forward passes, it was nothing that materialised into a chance. Further, picking up an early yellow card did himself and his side no favours.

Central midfield: Curtis Jones– 6.5

Liverpool’s best player today. Having not started any of the last six Premier League games, Jones was finally given his chance today. If there was one player who deserved to win the game on our side, it was the 20-year-old.

His innovation in the final third is not unknown, and Curtis really did try his best to force a goal in Liverpool’s favour. Surprisingly though, Jurgen Klopp took him off in the 68th minute, which many didn’t seem to understand.
