Defensive midfield: Gini Wijnaldum – 3.5

Playing Gini in the number six role certainly isn’t helping his case, he has very minimal influence on the game whenever played here, and today was no exception.

The Dutchman barely got on the ball, and whenever he did, it was to no avail. It’s going to take Henderson/Fabinho to move back into midfield if we want Gini back on form.

Central midfield: Thiago – 3

Thiago was originally on the bench for today, but Jurgen was forced into making a substitution in the first 20 minutes of the game as James Milner picked up an injury.

I’ve been pretty dismissive of the critics that have said Thiago slows our play down, but I saw it today. It was his worst performance yet in a Liverpool shirt, and I hope that it’s a one-off experience.

Central midfield: Curtis Jones– 5.5

Always been a fan of Curtis Jones’ style of play. Progressive, composed, and disciplined. Today, I didn’t see too much of that. Despite moving forward on occasion, he lacked the cutting edge in the final third.

We shouldn’t be too harsh on him, though. Given his age, Jones has done more than enough to retain his place in the side.
