Liverpool set to sign bargain 16-goal Old Firm star
Liverpool has been linked with a bargain move for a 16-goal Old Firm star.
There’s been plenty of chat about the future of Roberto Firmino, especially given the good form of Diogo Jota.
Firmino has been poor this season, which is perhaps not a massive surprise given the amount of football he’s played over the past three years.
Are Liverpool moving on?
Divock Origi’s goose is cooked and he’ll almost certainly leave Liverpool in the summer. He’s already been linked with moves away.
That means Jurgen Klopp is going to need to turn to the transfer market to sign a more recognised centre-forward. That man could be Celtic star Odsonne Edouard, reported Anfield Watch.
Anfield Watch picked up a few comments from Ian McGarry on the Transfer Window Podcast. McGarry suggested that Edouard, who is coming into the final year of his Hoops contract, is on the Liverpool radar.
"He said: “Liverpool and Arsenal are two teams who are chasing Odsonne Edouard of Celtic, a player who we have mentioned a few times on the podcast. Mostly with regards to Arsenal’s interest.”More from Rush The KopSet to return, Virgil Van Dijk facing heavy criticism back homeLiverpool making late comebacks all the rage once againWolves tilt gives Klopp opportunity to tinker with lineup following international dutyPlayers to watch in the matchup with WolvesPredicting Liverpool’s Next Five Premier League Fixtures"
Odsonne Edouard is on the radar
The French striker has been one of the best forwards in the Scottish Premier League over the past few years. 81 goals and 36 assists in 162 games puts him in the elite bracket, at least in terms of SPL.
It’s a bit of a surprise that Edouard hasn’t moved away before this season, but Celtic were so keen to get one over on Rangers this season that they refused to sell the 23-year-old and take a financial hit when he eventually moves.
Would Edouard hit the spot? He’s definitely young enough to improve under Jurgen Klopp and the coaching staff, while we’ve seen that Liverpool do like to sign players who have yet to establish their position in the world.
Klopp has spoken about trying to sign the next big star, and this would fit the bill. Edouard clearly knows where the goal is, can put on an assist and is fit enough to get through the rigours of the season. This would be an interesting move.
