Some respect for Thiago Alcantara

It was disheartening to see some fans around the Premier League outside of Liverpool have a go at Thiago Alcantara and spout off nonsense about how he was a bad signing or about how the Reds are better without him. Because nothing could be further from the truth. Thiago is a world-class midfielder whom few other players in Europe can match in what he does, and Kopites are honored to have him in the side.

The former Bayern Munich superstar was excellent against West Brom. You can tell he is a class above the other midfielders in his reading of the game offensively and defensively, and sometimes I wish his teammates would listen to his directions on where to pass. Like Toni Kroos at Real Madrid, for example, Thiago has an eye for the pass after the pass. That is to say, he knows which pass to make so that the team can then progress the ball up the pitch more easily. And heeding that would help Liverpool’s attack greatly.

Thiago was impossible to stop from West Brom’s perspective. He kept creating dangerous attacking scenarios for the Reds. The 30-year-old had five key passes and two dribbles completed. And he even led the team with five tackles.

It was a commanding display from Thiago, who is showing signs that he is hitting his peak performance for Liverpool.
